Now Based in Miami, Alejandro Sulser Is Bringing Latin American Real Estate within Reach

Alejandro Sulser has come a long way over his two decades in real estate—both professionally and geographically.

Since starting out at the age of 18 in his native Mexico City, where he built a substantial business in luxury new developments, Alejandro has established himself in the U.S. as a truly international real estate agent for Douglas Elliman in markets stretching from Acapulco and La Romana, Dominican Republic, to South Florida and New York City.

In the past year, after selling a majority stake in his Mexico City-based company, Alejandro relocated to Miami, along with his wife (a New Jersey native who’s expecting their first child!) and his mother. Although he is based out of Elliman’s Coral Gables office, his extensive, cross-border network enabled him to land one of the biggest listings of his career: Villa Malika, a 50,000-square-foot, residence in Casa de Campo, the most exclusive community in the Dominican Republic.

Home to an expansive 370-slip marina and yacht club, a polo and equestrian club, and a sprawling 245-acre shooting center, Casa de Campo also boasts three acclaimed golf courses, including the renowned Teeth of the Dog from the legendary course designer Pete Dye. It is consistently ranked among the Top 100 golf courses in the world.

The resort is a popular retreat for numerous celebrities and sports stars, says Alejandro, noting that “Vin Diesel lives not far away from the house I’m listing.”

Indeed, Villa Malika is particularly superlative-worthy: located next to the 18th hole of the Casa de Campo Country Club with its own private beach, the nine-bedroom estate is segmented into various wings to ensure privacy and showcases vaulting living spaces with ceiling heights up to 20 feet. Featuring opulent amenities like the 1,500-bottle wine cellar, 16-seat screening room, and outdoor entertainment area with 10+ grills and a custom pizza oven, the home is described in the listing as “the most solidly built residence in the D.R., and a trailblazing engineering project in the region.” Its listing price is $22 million.

This listing has been the first of many to come in the exclusive and rapidly growing Caribbean enclave, where Alejandro has already secured 20+ listings, all which will be going live in the next couple of months, solidifying Douglas Elliman´s presence in this booming luxury market.

In Mexico, a couple of Alejandro´s most recent listings include a spectacular 24,700-square-foot home for $4.5 million in Acapulco’s Las Brisas, and a massive 10,000-square-foot condo for $4.75 million in Santa Fe, one of Mexico´s most luxurious neighborhoods.

Acapulco´s Las Brisas is the neighborhood that put Acapulco on the map, drawing luminaries from Frank Sinatra and Howard Hughes to the Shah of Iran. Listed for $5.5 million (at the high end of Mexico’s market), the seven-bedroom home is perched right above the water and has parking for 10 cars.

Alejandro also spends plenty of time in New York City, where he has been arduously promoting THE WELL Coconut Grove, a forthcoming luxury new development under the NYC-based healthy-lifestyle brand. Featuring 194 thoughtfully designed residences across eight floors and luxury-spa-level amenities, the development weaves ultra-wellness into the experience.

“I’ve had great feedback from people in Soho and the Village,” Alejandro says of THE WELL. “Younger people very into the concept of Wellness and everything that revolves around it.”

Indeed, tapping into Floridians´ and New Yorkers’ lifestyle interests is very much part of Alejandro’s plan to find buyers for his properties in the Caribbean and Central America.

“People are expanding their horizons, so I want to have a portfolio that matches the reach of that imagination,” he tells me, noting that he’s well-positioned to serve his clients, no matter the location. “I can fly to any houses I’m listing on less than a day’s notice.”

In seeking to globalize his network of clients and listing locations, Alejandro is absolutely aligned with a brokerage that just last year launched a new strategy for international expansion focused on providing the same top-tier level of client service across borders.

“I need to know what it takes to buy and sell in each country, so my clients don’t have to go down this road themselves,” he says. “I won’t be building my business if I don’t.”
