Veterans Day Spotlight: Joshua Whalley
by ELLIMAN INSIDER TEAM
November 2025
In celebration of Veterans Day, we invited members of the Douglas Elliman community who have served in the armed forces to reflect on how their service experiences have shaped their lives and careers in the real estate business.
Joshua Whalley, Agent, Babylon, NY
Please briefly describe your military service.
I served in the United States Army from 2008 to 2015, both in the active and reserve capacities. I served in combat during Operation Enduring Freedom, 2010-11, in Afghanistan.
In what ways, if any, has your service experience shaped the way you approach your life and career in real estate?
For certain my military experience forged the service fist mentality by which I approach real estate practice and my management style. I take a lead, from the front approach, and only ask the agents (my troops) to do things I personally do or have done.
What would you like your colleagues to know or understand about your service experience and what it means to you?
That is a section of my life of which I am deeply proud, though it comes with its challenges. There are some imprints of service on one's personality that can interject another layer of challenge to an already deeply challenging field of expertise.
