Jayne Gottlieb When it comes to an office with a view, Jayne Gottlieb scored big time. Most summer mornings, the yogameditation teacher, entrepreneur, and motivational speaker can be found on the summit of Aspen Mountain, leading yoga classes on the Sundeck (675 E. Durant Ave., 970.925.1220), then commuting by gondola to her boutique downtown studio, Aspen Shakti (535 E. Hyman Ave., 970.925.1655). “My passion is for magnetizing and inspiring community,” Gottlieb says. “I’m passionate about Aspen. It’s an amazing community to be a part of.” With boundless energy that seems to radiate from her headful of thick, unruly blond hair, Gottlieb is always developing a new project, program, or product. The Body Practice is her most recent brainchild, a synthesis of several different styles of yoga melded into one, with offerings at the studio and online to reach students in Aspen and beyond. “It’s strengthening, meditative, and restorative. It’s a very enlivening practice,” she says. —by Ali Margo Aspen Shakti VISUAL FEAST Dessert at Bear Den To feed her creativity—and her appetite—Gottlieb’s favorite place for lunch with a side of inspiration is SO , the rooftop café at the Aspen Art Museum (637 E. Hyman Ave., 970.925.8050), where you can take in views of Aspen Mountain and the current modern art exhibit. “The food is delightful and delicious, and the atmosphere is epic,” she says. While you might expect Gottlieb to tout green smoothies and kombucha, she loves nothing more than to indulge in some prime people watching from the patio at Bosq (312 S. Mill St., 970.710.7299) while sipping an Aperol Spritzer. “It’s my favorite drink of all time and just a great spot to be.” For a quick bite after morning class, she’ll head to the Bear Den (301 E. Hopkins Ave., 970.922.9218). “I love the vibe. It’s in an adorable little white Victorian, and they have great coffee, tea, and breakfast pastries. But when it comes to wanting a good, strong espresso, no one does it better than Local Coffee House .” (614 E. Cooper Ave., 970.710.7855) SELF-CARE SALUTATIONS For the woman who takes care of everyone else, it’s sometimes hard to carve out time for herself. When she does, it’s usually for exercising outdoors. “In summer, there’s nothing better than hiking up Aspen Mountain and then sitting at the Sundeck. That’s heaven to me. I also love, love, love my road bike, and I ride up to the Maroon Bells and Castle Creek a lot,” she says. “In winter, one of my favorite things is to skin [ski uphill with synthetic “skins” attached to the bottoms of the skis for traction] to the top of Tiehack. I love the meditation of skinning, and recreating outdoors in the winter is heaven to me. The view is so magnificent, and it’s a great workout.” Local Coffe House ASPEN-STYLE INDULGENCE When she wants to unwind and enjoy a getaway without leaving home, Gottlieb heads for Remède Spa at The St. Regis Aspen Resort (315 E. Dean St., 970.920.3300). “It’s a wonderful spa where I can escape and be out of the scene. It feels sacred and lovely, and I love drinking champagne in the hot tub.” That’s precisely the kind of vibe she tries to create at Aspen Shakti. “It’s really personal and very beautiful. Our teachers are top notch, and everyone is really invested in the community. We’re there to listen and offer support. Find your next home in Colorado today.
