Open Ears, Closed Mouth: How Elliman’s Sharon Dreyer is Putting Her Clients First

by Elliman Editors

October 2021

Sharon Dreyer As a realtor, Sharon Dreyer abides by a simple piece of advice – open your ears and close your mouth. So far it has treated her pretty well. “In this business it’s so important to understand your clients needs, because that’s the only way you can serve them properly,” says the Houston-based agent, a regular top producer for Douglas Elliman. It is a skill that has empowered Sharon throughout her 27 years in real estate, and one she honed during earlier careers in front of the camera as an actress and in the skies as a flight attendant, where communication is vital. Elliman Insider caught up with Sharon to find out how she utilizes her unique skill set, when she knew real estate was her calling and the advice she has for new agents just breaking in. Elliman Insider: You were formerly an actress and also a flight attendant. When did you know that real estate was your calling? How did you make the switch? Sharon Dreyer: I knew that is what I wanted to do as my fourth child entered high school. I knew I loved people, homes and decor and appreciated the flexibility that becoming a Realtor could offer beyond a 9-5 career. EI: What has been your biggest challenge as an agent? How have you overcome it? SD: I would say that along with the flexibility of being a full time Realtor for 27 years, the challenge is continuously prioritizing my time and finding a balance between my professional career and personal and family life. Maintaining constant availability and dedication to my clients needs but still reserving time for myself and others in my personal life like my daughters. Sharon and daughters. EI: Why did you choose Elliman?    SD: I chose Elliman because its worldwide stellar reputation and international affiliations.  As well as having excelled as a real estate brokerage for over 100 years. EI: Do you live by a personal mantra or favorite saying? SD: This too shall pass and in another 100 years it won’t matter (which puts everything in real perspective). EI: Any advice for new agents? SD: Yes, run Forrest run…[laughs]. But honestly, really build a solid foundation with contacts and don’t expect instant success. EI: Where can we find you when you’re not working? SD: I have been involved in multiple charity organizations and spending quality time with family and friends and of course my pets!
