The stars were aligned on a recent fall day at the Island’s End Golf Course  in Greenport, NY, where local business leaders had gathered for the annual Ladies’ Day on the Links fundraiser for  Stony Brook Eastern Long Island Hospital . The weather was perfect, spirits were high—and Douglas Elliman’s Valerie White sank a hole-in-one at the 11th hole. Photo courtesy of Valerie White. A branch manager for Elliman’s North Fork offices, White teed off with a foursome that included Jill Dunbar, a Douglas Elliman agent out of the Greenport office, Linda Ortiz, a local property manager, and Janelle Ratsey, who works for Stony Brook and runs a family-owned local construction company. “We were playing scramble style, and each of us took shot off the tee,” White recounted. “Jill’s went left, Janelle and Linda’s went right. My shot went straight and landed somewhere on the green.” The sloping bunkers in front of the green blocked their view, so it wasn’t until the foursome went to locate their balls that White discovered just how straight her shot had gone. “I looked around the edge of the green to see if it was just off in the rough but found nothing,” she said. “As I walked past the hole, I glanced down and there it was—my ball was in the cup! White and the others leapt and shouted in celebration, drawing applause from the other foursomes around them. “Needless to say, it was an incredible surprise—my first ever hole-in-one! My adrenaline was pumping for the rest of the day!” she added. The 11th hole was sponsored by fashion and furnishings retailer  Renee’s , a third-generation family business in Mattituck. “I’ve played in this wonderful event for a couple of years now. It’s always a great day with a lot of local businesses coming out to support all the great work ELIH does for the residents of the North Fork,” said White.  “A big thank you to Barbara Koch, who runs the event, for putting together a fantastic day for the community, and to everyone who came out to support and participate!”
