6 Reasons Why Winter is a Great Time to Move

by Elliman Editors

December 2019

The most wonderful time of the year—winter—could also be the most wonderful time of the year to make a move. While it’s well-known that spring is the high-season for real estate sales with families looking to settle into new homes before the school year starts, there are many benefits to buying and selling in the colder months.  1. Low Inventory = Less Competition As a seller, buyers won’t be looking at as many other houses, so they’ll be focusing more on your home. As a buyer, there’s less chance you’ll get into a bidding war, or have someone else snag your dream home before you can submit an offer.  2. Buyers are Serious In spring and summer, there will probably be more people at your open house, but some of them are just window-shoppers. In the winter they’ll be less foot traffic, but those that do come through are serious about buying.  3. Year-end Financial Bonuses The end of the calendar year is also bonus time for many companies. These additional funds may bring more people into the housing market. 4. Save on Movers October through February are slower months for moving companies, therefore moving rates tend to drop. And if you’re moving in the winter, treat yourself to movers! 5. Time Off Around the holidays people have more time off which they could use to browse online for homes and schedule showings. 6. Faster Sales Low inventory and motivated buyers and sellers leads to faster home sales.  —by Jacqueline Kuron Contact a Douglas Elliman agent today to find your next home.
