The northernmost region of Manhattan includes Harlem, Morningside Heights, Hamilton Heights, Inwood and several other neighborhoods that appeal to a wide range of ages and ethnicities and, increasingly, a large number of actors, artists, musicians, and other creative types. They're lured by larger spaces at friendlier prices than the rest of the island, tight-knit communities filled with independently owned businesses and restaurants, a plethora of cultural institutions and a luxurious number of parks and other developed outdoor space, often on a waterfront. Multiple subway lines service the area, allowing residents to be removed from but easily connected to other parts of the city.
