The name is deceptive because while yes, many investment banking and other financial institutions are headquartered here, FiDi has becoming a surprisingly intimate residential neighborhood despite being densely populated with primarily high-rise buildings. As it evolved, so did the offerings, which now include a movie theatre with waiter service, a revitalized South Street Seaport with charming shops lining cobblestone walkways and Pier 17, which hosts a summer concert series in addition to a Jean Georges restaurant. The nearby ferry to Governor’s Island provides a quick and easy voyage to 172 acres of bike paths, art fairs and eateries with enviable views of Manhattan.
