As a New Yorker for 20+ years, Kim Shankman understands that each individual’s situation, needs and desires are unique – and works with buyers and sellers to develop customized real estate strategies. For over a decade, Ms. Shankman has been a shareholder on the Upper West Side and previously lived in the Murray Hill and Chelsea neighborhoods. As part of the admission committee in her building for the past seven years, Kim is well-versed in building management and the co-op process. Kim works closely with her clients to define the specific combination of elements that make an apartment feel like home, including tangible details such as the layout, building, or neighborhood, as well as intangible elements that make an apartment the ‘right’ choice for a buyer.
Prior to real estate, Kim spent 20 years as a physical therapist and built a successful private client practice. She leverages her empathetic understanding of patient needs, ability to listen for details that others miss, and highly technical expertise, to develop long term relationships. She applies these same skills to working with her real estate clients.
Kim holds a doctorate of physical therapy from New York University and a bachelor's degree from the University of Michigan. She lives in New York City with her husband and two children, and is an active board member of the Parents’ Association at her children’s school.
"Kim's ability to genuinely understand what we were looking for, and only show us apartments that exactly fit our criteria, is what made the process so easy and efficient."
"Kim was always reachable and made us feel like we were her number one priority."
"Kim's wealth of knowledge about the real estate market and warm personality make a stressful process seem enjoyable."
"Kim always got back to us promptly; her research and advice regarding preparing and marketing the apartment was spot-on; and she repeatedly went the extra mile in terms of every aspect of the process. I highly recommend her."
"Kim is knowledgeable, efficient, friendly and completely focused on reaching the goal while providing excellent customer service. In less than 4 months she helped us prep, list, and close on a sale in the Covid-market at an excellent price."
"Kim is a great real estate agent. As out-of-towners, Kim’s knowledge of NYC, her patience and her professionalism were invaluable to us as we embarked on and completed our apartment search. We enjoyed working with Kim for a variety of reasons.
First, while Kim’s knowledge of the real estate market extends City-wide, as a resident herself of the UWS, Kim is *extremely* knowledgeable of the UWS market. When we considered particular addresses, Kim could rattle off building details (she has friends or former clients in many buildings) and neighborhood details (like subway access, local groceries and restaurants, etc.) which we found very helpful.
Second, when you sign up with Kim, you get to work with Kim! Many agents sign you up themselves, but you actually spend time with inexperienced members of their extensive teams. With Kim you get personalized service – she went with us on our many appointments and had no problems with phone or video calls after normal business hours or on the weekends.
Third, she works hard. At the start, Kim spent a lot of time trying to understand our goals and priorities. We went on dozens of appointments that she thoughtfully scheduled. She was impressively responsive to texts, calls and emails throughout the process. Over the summer she monitored the market for us, combing through listings periodically to propose ideas and make suggestions. She was unafraid to ask selling agents a million questions on our behalf and generally tried to make everything as easy as possible on our end.
Finally, she’s funny and interesting! When you have to walk around town with an agent for an entire afternoon, you might as well pick one like Kim that you enjoy spending time with! When we finally bought our apartment in late 2022, my wife joked “the biggest downside is that we won’t get to hang out with Kim anymore.” Choose Kim Shankman and you won’t regret it."
