LONG BEACH
Stretching for more than two miles, Long Beach’s boardwalk is central to life in the “City by the Sea.” Residents regularly walk or ride bikes on the boardwalk or simply sit on benches to watch the waves. A magnet for young couples, singles, and downsizing Long Islanders, Long Beach has been newly renovated, with homes rebuilt higher and to stronger codes following Hurricane Sandy in 2012. Besides single-family homes, the barrier island features luxury co-ops and condos, many with ocean views. With all manner of stores, restaurants, and services—many along the commercial strip on Park Avenue— there’s little reason to ever leave.
