Veterans Day Spotlight: Christopher Pickett
by Elliman Insider Team
November 2023
In celebration of Veterans Day, we invited members of the Douglas Elliman community who have served in the U.S. armed forces to reflect on how their service experiences have shaped their lives and careers in the real estate business.
Christopher Pickett, Real Estate Agent, Beverly Hills, California
Please briefly describe your military service.
I am a graduate of the U.S. Naval Academy – BEAT ARMY! I served as an intelligence officer for VF-211 (Fighting Checkmates) at Naval Air Station Miramar (when it was a Naval Air Station), as intelligence officer for Naval Special Warfare Command (NAVSPECWAR – SEALS) and as the flag lieutenant to RADM Smith, who was Commander Naval Special Warfare (COMNAVSPECWAR).
In what ways, if any, has your service experience shaped the way you approach your life and career in real estate?
Both the Naval Academy and my military training taught me to multitask and perform in high-stress situations. Whether on the field of battle or in the real estate trenches, being able to think clearly, react calmly and act decisively rules the day.
What would you like your colleagues to know or understand about your service experience and what it means to you?
In my opinion, service to one’s country, whether it’s military service or volunteer service as a civilian, is a privilege. I think every young adult should serve one’s country in some capacity, civilian or military, even if only for a short period of time. Service to others who are often less fortunate and unable to substantially help themselves is a noble pursuit, and in doing so, lifelong friendships will be forged.
