Hamptons Agent Erica Grossman Celebrates 20 Years with Douglas Elliman

by ELLIMAN INSIDER TEAM

July 2025

Since joining Douglas Elliman in 2005, the Hamptons-based agent Erica Grossman has built a remarkable career defined by excellence, integrity, and consistency. With her work ethic, market knowledge, and refined eye for design, she has become a go-to advisor for discerning buyers, sellers, and luxury developers alike, and one of the highest-performing agents in the Hamptons market.

In celebration of her 20th anniversary at the brokerage, Elliman Insider spoke with Erica about the evolution of the East End, what advice she would give to agents just starting out in the industry, and what keeps her excited about luxury real estate.

Two decades at Douglas Elliman—congratulations! When you think back to the beginning, what do you remember most about your early days as an agent?

Thank you! In the early days, it was really about hustle and learning every inch of the Hamptons. I said yes to everything, showings, tours, learning from every situation. I spent hours driving from one end to the other, figuring out the streets, neighborhoods, and how the market worked. I genuinely loved it then and still do now. What used to feel like a grind just became second nature over time.

You’ve consistently ranked among the top-producing agents at Elliman and in the Hamptons. What do you think has fueled that consistency and longevity?

It’s always been about relationships. I care about my clients and what they’re trying to accomplish, and I work hard to make that happen. Consistency comes from showing up every day being honest, staying informed, and doing what you say you’re going to do. That builds trust, and the trust is what brings people back and keeps them referring me to others.

How has the Hamptons market evolved over the past 20 years? And what trends do you think are here to stay?

It’s gone from seasonal to year-round—weekend or full-time—no question. We’ve become more global, and buyers today are more design-savvy, detail-oriented, and data-driven. The other big shift is the demand for turnkey homes, properties that are move-in ready with indoor/outdoor living, and amenities that feel like a private resort. That trend is definitely here to stay.

Is there a particular sale or listing that stands out as a turning point in your career?

Yes, early in my career I sold the same property twice, once off-market. That deal taught me a lot about the long game and the value of relationships. It also helped open the door to clients I’m still working with today.

You’ve built a reputation not just as a top agent, but also as a trusted advisor. What’s your approach to client relationships?

I treat every deal like it’s my own, whether it’s a $1-million cottage or a $60-million oceanfront estate. I’m honest, strategic, and calm under pressure. At the end of the day, real trust is what leads to real success, and that’s something I take seriously.

Many of your listings are architecturally significant or newly built. How did your background in development shape your eye for design and value?

Having that background lets me walk into a house and immediately see the potential or the problems. I understand construction, timelines, and what adds true value. That helps buyers see what’s possible and helps sellers position their property to sell for the highest price.

What advice would you give a new agent starting out at Elliman today?

Work hard, be kind, and don’t only chase the big listings. Know the inventory. Study the comps. Pick up the phone and build real relationships. There’s no shortcut to experience, but if you stay consistent and professional, the success will follow.

"I’m never afraid to evolve. Staying curious keeps you connected."

You’ve weathered market cycles, changing buyer behaviors, and a major pandemic. What’s helped you stay adaptable and relevant?

Listening. The market’s always shifting, and you have to be willing to shift with it. Whether it’s embracing new technology, adjusting marketing, or understanding what today’s buyers really want. I’m never afraid to evolve. Staying curious keeps you connected.

Southampton, Water Mill, East Hampton, Montauk. You’ve represented some of the most coveted areas on the East End. Do you have a personal favorite spot or hidden gem?

Each village has its own vibe, but I’ve always loved the balance of Sag Harbor and Southampton: they’re historic yet elevated. That said, there are still hidden pockets throughout the Hamptons: quiet streets and private waterfronts that still surprise me.

Looking ahead, what excites you about the future of real estate, either in the Hamptons or for you personally?

I’m excited by the way lifestyle, architecture, and sustainability are coming together. Buyers want homes that give them a better quality of life, and the Hamptons delivers that. Personally, I’m looking forward to growing my business, mentoring new talent, and continuing to represent properties that have a story to tell.

After 20 years with Elliman, what has the company meant to you professionally and personally?

Elliman has been my home base. It’s where I’ve grown, found mentorship, built lifelong relationships, and been supported every step of the way. I’m proud to represent the brand, and I have so much respect for the leadership and others across the company who’ve helped shape not just Elliman, but the industry. The colleagues I work alongside are some of the best in the business, and many have become like family. I’m grateful to be part of this community.
