Elliman Cares: LGBTQ+ Resources & Organizations to Celebrate This Pride Weekend

by Elliman Editors

June 2022

By Grace Cassidy As the annual celebrations of Pride month crescendo this weekend with marches, parades and dance parties across the country, Douglas Elliman would like to recognize some of the organizations—both in and around the real estate industry—that are working to advance love and tolerance. We hope you’ll take a moment to learn more about these organizations and resources and perhaps consider supporting them in whichever way you choose. Happy Pride! RESOURCES National Agency of Gay and Lesbian Real Estate Professionals The National Agency of Gay and Lesbian Real Estate Professionals works to help people find LGBTQ+-friendly real estate agents in their area. The organization has 44 chapters across the United States and over 2,800 members. GayRealEstate.com Jeffrey Hammerberg founded GayRealEstate.com in the 1990s when he noticed a growing need for the LGBTQ+ community to have a trusted resource in home searching. According to its website, GayRealEstate.com is “committed to connecting members of our LGBTQ community to agents we know personally, have investigated and interviewed extensively, and in some cases have been working with for over 25 years!” The LGBTQ+ Real Estate Alliance A relatively new organization, the Minnesota-based LGBTQ+ Real Estate Alliance was founded in June 2020, in the early months of the pandemic, to address the LGBTQ+ community’s housing needs. ORGANIZATIONS God’s Love We Deliver God’s Love We Deliver is dear to many of us at Douglas Elliman. In addition to our annual sponsorship of the Ride for Love fundraising event, many Elliman agents are individually involved in the organization and spend time volunteering—including Greg Williamson, cofounder of the Love Rocks NYC fundraising concert . Since it was founded in 1986, God’s Love has delivered free, nutritious and satisfying meals to folks living with HIV, AIDS, cancer and other illnesses that leave them unable to provide or prepare meals for themselves. Aspen Gay Ski Week Another institution that Douglas Elliman sponsors, Aspen Gay Ski Week is a celebratory and fun event with a mission to raise awareness and funds for promoting tolerance and anti-bullying initiatives for the LGBTQ+ community. Billed as “the oldest annual, week-long gay ski event in the nation,” AGSW will celebrate “46 years of progress” on the slopes with what it promises will be “Our Biggest Party Yet” in January 2023! True Colors United Youth homelessness is one of the most common challenges for many in the LGBTQ+ community. According to the True Colors United website, “LGBTQ young people are 120% more likely to experience homelessness than all other youth.” This organization is working to end youth homelessness through training, education, initiatives and advocacy on a local, state and federal level. Ali Forney Center The Ali Forney Center provides emergency housing to homeless LGBTQ+ youth, as well as transitional housing throughout Manhattan and Brooklyn. The organization was founded in 2002 and named after Ali Forney, a gender-nonconforming homeless youth who was tragically murdered. Today, their legacy lives on in providing others with a safe space.
