Designer Focus: Pure and Simple

December 2018

The key to good design is good editing, says Suzanne Kasler. The Atlanta- based designer sees a growing preference among her clients for rooms that exude uncluttered elegance, perhaps as a respite from information overload in today’s technology-driven world. To provide inspiration, Kasler has assembled a stunning collection of carefully curated interiors in her new book, Sophisticated Simplicity (Rizzoli, 2018). “A book is an amazing way to share our design philosophy and to help people refine their personal style by seeing how others live,” says the award-winning designer. “We have found that this approach really resonates with people.” Sophisticated Simplicity is divided into four sections of home interiors designed by Kasler: Inspired, Town, Country, and Shore. As a whole, they showcase her talent for blending high and low, traditional and contemporary, new and old into a coherent whole that manages to be both timely and timeless—and to convey a strong sense of place. Kasler, named one of House Beautiful ’stop 100 designers, is the author of two earlier books on design, Inspired Interiors (2009) and Timeless Style (2013). In addition to working on décor projects in far-flung locations from Bermuda to New Orleans to Newport Beach, she recently introduced a collection of furniture and accessories for Hickory Chair as well as a wicker collection for Ballard Designs. Her next project will be a fabric collection for luxe home furnishings maker Lee Jofa. —By Kathy Passero Find your new home to decorate today.
