About Tina

Athena Tina Canaris graduated from Pace University with a BBA Degree in Business Administration intending to pursue a teaching career. Tina was hired as a business teacher at Syosset High School, which gave her the organizational skills, the patience and the caring that is needed in teaching and in business.

Growing up as a first generation Greek American--born in Brooklyn, NY and raised on Long Island--she was called Athena at home and Tina at school.

Tina experienced THE BEST OF BOTH WORLDS--THE BEST OF THE OLD & THE BEST OF THE NEW!

Tina never forgot the old-fashioned values of her youth--fair play, honesty, integrity & the golden rule.

Little did she realize back then that her life would take a very big turn in a different direction. Taking time out to raise her family, Tina began her real estate career in 1984--selling family-owned real estate. Tina said it felt natural and did not feel like work--although it was a great deal of work! She found her "calling" at that time! Tina became an owner/partner in a real estate development company--building new homes with her husband, Steve, in Merrick and Bellmore.

Many wonderful people with big hearts in both towns believed in Tina and gave her an opportunity to succeed. The bottom fell out of the real estate market in the late 1980's. Tina started working at Barbara Hirsch Realty to recoup investment dollars from building new construction.

By 1993 Prudential Long Island Realty hired Tina as an associate broker. She earned the prestigious Legend Award and was Ranked in the Top 10 Agents on Long Island. She became the #1 Agent in Closed Sales on Long Island for 5 years In A Row--in income & volume.

In 2007 Tina was a part owner of a real estate company for 7 years.

In 2014 Real Trends honored Tina Canaris as one of the Top 1000 BEST REAL ESTATE AGENTS IN THE USA. Tina attributes her success to all of the people that surround her.

January, 2014, Tina Canaris returned to Douglas Elliman Real Estate, which she calls HOME & earned ranking in the Top Teams on LI--PINNACLE AWARD.
