Neighborhood Guide

LA JOLLA

Affluent homeowners flock to its fabulous hillside mansions for their exclusivity and privacy, even as La Jolla retains the feeling of a quaint seaside village. Its regular annual visitors come for the boutiques and waterfront restaurants with views of La Jolla Cove, the rocky and protected marine reserve where sea lions frolic all year long. La Jolla has the best of high-end dining and people-watching, even as its protected areas within the San Diego-La Jolla Underwater Park marine refuge area are places of serious marine research. Still, its natural splendors aren’t out of reach: Kayakers can visit its famous caves and its beaches are wildly popular.
