Situated in the South-West corner of the Monte Argentario, this wonderful tower dates back to the 15th Century, and was originally constructed by the Republic of Siena as a watchtower that formed part of their Southern seaboard defences. It remained a military outpost until the end of the nineteenth century, when it passed into private hands.
Approached by a private track from the Cannelle gate, the property is only really visible from the sea and from one point on the access road. Entrance, from the parking area, is via a wooden gate in the wonderful old stone wall of the garden, offering complete privacy and tranquillity. Only once you reach the terrace in front of the tower, do you fully appreciate the proximity to the sea and the wonderful views.
The main tower is the only hexagonal tower in Tuscany and is built over three floors, plus a basement floor under the terrace in front of it. The tower is surrounded by a stone wall ,enclosing a courtyard and a further building with four bedrooms and bathrooms. The tower has a large bedroom and bathroom on the top two floors, with access to a roof terrace. An entrance hall and sitting room on the ground floor and kitchen/dining room under the main terrace, with access to the garden, which is undeveloped, so largely overgrown, but with typical bushes and shrubs of this part of the Mediterranean.
