An attractive building with a Georgian feel, 12 East 97th Street, built in 1925, was designed by the firm Rouse & Goldstone. This building has a two-story smooth stone base with a stone course running above the third floor and a classical stone frieze at the top. On the eleventh floor are four private penthouses with terraces. Ten apartments have been combined to create larger apartments. The architectural firm of Rouse & Goldstone was very successful in the early 20th Century, designing numerous high quality apartment houses. In 1924, the firm received one of its most prominent commissions, the apartment house at 1107 Fifth Avenue, which was designed and built for Marjorie Merriweather Post, whose townhouse formerly stood on the site.
