Historically, this Carriage House possesses a wonderfully creative provenance. Since 1959, it has been the home of famous fashion photographers Lillian Bassman and Paul Himmel who made many of their now iconic shots in the enormous studio. Additionally, artist Helen Frankenthaler painted in there for fifteen years.

Located between Park A venue and Lexington, a rare location for a Carriage House, this 25 wide Romanesque Revival red brick horse and staff house was designed by S. C. Slocum and built in 1900 for John Boulton Simpson, the chairman of Estey Piano Company. Besides its excellent location and large garage, it features an open West facade allowing side windows, which is rare indeed for a town house, as well as 13 ceilings. Additional square footage may be added to the structure. It is currently zoned for a photography studio and residential use.
