Owners, Dennis and Carmela, moved into the East Rock neighborhood in 2018, shortly after they acquired, J.P Dempsey’s, a restaurant/bar established in 1992.

After 3 years of ownership, they decided East Rock needed a change, and Ward 9 was born! Each section of New Haven is divided by areas or what's referred to as wards.

‘Ward 9’ represents the section of the East Rock neighborhood where Dennis and Carmela live, work and play.

They kept the same amazing staff but slightly changed the food and cocktail menus. Mostly, they wanted the vibe of the restaurant to reflect what they love most, so they created a unique space where art and music are incorporated into the dining experience and patrons leave with a smile on their face.--
