Residents and visitors alike are drawn to Old Town Basalt, as well as the newer development of Willits, Basalt, for its grounded, casual culture, fine arts, quaint restaurants, and year-round, outdoor activities.
During the summer months, enjoy a day fly-fishing on one of the two Gold Medal rivers running through town (the Roaring Fork River and the Frying Pan River), take a cruise on the bike path that connects neighboring towns of Aspen and Carbondale through Basalt, spend an afternoon paddleboarding or sailing at Ruedi Reservoir, hike on one of the many mountain trails in the area, or simply head downtown for countless dining, shopping, and entertainment experiences.
In the winter, residents partake in snowshoeing, ice fishing, sledding, and skiing at one of the five famous ski mountains in the valley (all within a 45-min drive from Basalt), as well as many other activities.
