By Grace Cassidy With the weather getting warmer as we stroll into summer, it’s time (for those of us who have them) to get reacquainted with our outdoor spaces after a season away. Here are five easy changes you can make to reawaken and level-up your personal green space. Photo by Markus Spiske on Unsplash 1. Raise the Roots Elevate your garden—literally! Raised garden beds are not only stylish, they’re also great for your plants. Many urban and suburban areas may not have the best ground soil for your garden, especially fruits and veggies. Raising your beds will make it easier to control your soil and keep things healthy. Photo by Priscilla Du Preez on Unsplash 2. Tidy Up To improve the overall look of your outdoor space, keeping things trim and clean will go a long way. Every time you go out in your garden, bring along a pair of garden shears and cut off anything that isn’t super healthy or has been eaten by bugs. If you have fruits, veggies, and herbs, make sure to harvest regularly once the time is right. Harvesting will keep things from getting overcrowded in your garden and will promote new growth. Consider adding a quaint brick path that loops around your space or even just a couple of pavers to add a layer of interest and dimension. Hardscaping is definitely one of those things that can get expensive, but there are plenty of affordable projects that you can do in a single weekend. Photo by Randy Fath on Unsplash 4. Shine a Light Once you’ve got your enchanting hardscape path installed, footlights might be just the thing to add ambience to your outdoor space. If you don’t have the wiring in place (or you simply can’t be bothered), some string lights, lanterns or even a standing lamp for the patio are good options for welcoming in the light. If you have patio space or a deck where you can fit communal furniture—even a dining set—consider going full-grandmillennial with a wicker ensemble ! For a smaller space, a single, round bistro table offers a perfectly picturesque way to enjoy a solitary cup of coffee—just you and your leafy, fragrant friends.
