Shoebox Dream Rooms and Penthouse Tours: Take-Your-Child-to-Work Day at Douglas Elliman Development Marketing
by Elliman Insider Team
May 2024
On a recent day in April, the next generation of development marketing creatives gathered in a conference room at Douglas Elliman to work on an exciting new assignment: designing the rooms of their dreams inside of empty shoeboxes.
The project was part of a packed schedule of activities—including a field trip to One11 Thompson Residences Central Park—planned for several young participants in Douglas Elliman Development Marketing ’s Take-Your-Child-to-Work Day.
Spearheaded and organized by Adrienne Byrne, a Senior Vice President at DEDM, the day began with an office tour and meeting with DEDM President and Chief Executive Officer Susan de França, who asked the children to describe what they believed their parents do for work each day. After she shared her career journey in real estate, each child shared what they hope to be when they grow up (answers ranged from bakers, soccer stars and veterinarians to actors, authors, art teachers and zookeepers).
Working with the Planning & Design Team, the children were able to choose their own flooring, wall treatments, furniture and art for creating the rooms of their dreams. Each was given a miniature self-portrait on a stand to place within the shoebox and complete the diorama.
After a pizza lunch, the children enjoyed a tour of PHC at One11 Thompson Residences Central Park, just listed for $14,950,000 , where they were tasked with gathering details and taking notes for their next activity: creating a marketing ad for the property.
Drawing on examples of ads from Elliman Magazine , the young creatives combined photos and floorplans and brainstormed taglines to conjure the experience of elevated luxury that awaits prospective buyers.
In thanks for their hard work and creativity, all were treated to mini cupcakes and goodie bags filled with elegant Elliman swag.
