About Laura
Laura Jean Marquardt’s unique and diverse life choices seem to have inevitably led her to a career in real estate, and to a place at Douglas Elliman.
Always drawn to residential architecture and real estate, Laura leverages decades of skills honed in building construction, engineering, architecture, CAD drafting, interior design, renovation, advertising, film production and banking. As a homeowner, landlord, condo board member, and renter on both the east and west coasts, she brings a wealth of experience and empathy to your journey in real estate.
Born and raised in northern Canada, Laura earned a BA in psychology, after which she launched a performing career as dancer, model, and actor (with film roles opposite Val Kilmer, Gwyneth Paltrow, Huey Lewis, and Michael Kane, to name just a few).
She is a tenacious property hunter, a keen visualizer, and a relentless negotiator. She catalogs her clients’ needs, passionately internalizes them, and takes on their search as if it were her own. This caring is evident in the relationships that live on after a deal closed.
She is also a world-recognized glassblower/artist who launched a successful professional glass and lighting design studio, creating award-winning commissions for private and public collectors, including the Performing Arts School of the University of Delaware.
Laura combines her artistic eye and her ability to see diamonds in the rough, and to help others see possibility where some may not. Her latest project is a lifelong dream — renovating and restoring a 300-year-old historic daily barn from a derelict state to an architectural gem, including buying a bank-owned foreclosure property and utilizing a 203K loan.
