Lily Dale is a unique, gated community with strict rules. You must be a member in good standing of the Spiritualist religion, and property is handled through leaseholds rather than traditional land ownership. Housing and Rules:
No Land Ownership: You cannot actually buy and own the land under a home. Instead, you buy a leasehold that gives you the right to live on the property for a set number of years.
Cash Only: Mortgages are not allowed inside the community, meaning you must buy your home outright with cash. Even without land ownership, you still have to pay property taxes.
Religious Requirement: You must be a member in "good standing" of a recognized Spiritualist church and go through an application process with the Lily Dale Assembly board of directors. Community Life:
