Max Dobens joined Douglas Elliman in 2003 as part of the award-winning Jacky Teplitzky Team and was consistently been among the firm’s top producers each year. In 2007, the team ranked #1 overall in the firm for Gross Commission Income and Max was the top producing agent on the team. 8 years later he transitioned into sales leadership when he assumed the manager role in the West Village office. In just 4 years, through a combination of selective recruitment combined with strategic and ongoing agent development, Max grew the office from 35 agents to nearly 70 while at the same time increasing profitability and more than tripling office revenue. One of the keys to his success was fostering a unique, productive and fun office culture at Waverly Place. “When you have the right people with the right attitude – and you create the right environment in which to grow and prosper – then that’s exactly what happens” Whilst sitting at his desk back in the summer of 2011, Ride for Love founder Max Dobens decided that it would be a good idea to ride his bike 100 miles to the annual Douglas Elliman sales meeting in Atlantic City. Having never ridden more than 70 miles before, he felt compelled to lead by example showing the agents that they should push themselves and do something that they felt uncomfortable doing to help them improve. That year he raised $3,508 for God's Love We Deliver while riding alone. Last year, we opened up the ride to the general public and in 2019 we are now preparing for the 7th annual ride partnering with the Ride to Montauk and their established courses/ride logistics. Ride-to-date we have raised more than $815,000 from over 150 total riders. In May of 2016, Max accepted the next challenge in his career – leading the Sales and Operations in the 9 offices of the Brooklyn region for Douglas Elliman. Max knows that in New York’s hyper-competitive real estate market that education is the key to staying well ahead of the crowd. Currently, he is in the process of creating Brooklyn-specific agent enrichment programs, building upon the Brooklyn region’s culture and planning to use the successful methodology that he developed in the West Village office and apply that to the entire Brooklyn region. Additionally, Max is available to work with top agents and teams to help them grow and strategically become more efficient and productive. Max also teaches classes at the new agent training classes here at Douglas Elliman – “How to Add Value and be Relevant as an Agent” and “How to Work with a Buyer who will actually Buy” He earned a New York Residential Specialist designation from the Real Estate Board of New York and was a member of the inaugural class. Furthermore, Max is an honorary faculty member at The Hospitality School of Business at Michigan State University, his alma-mater where he frequently meets with student groups and lectures to undergraduates on various Real Estate and personal development topics. When he isn’t leading the Brooklyn region, he is playing competitive soccer in McCarren Park, Cycling all over Brooklyn and Manhattan, being a father and role model to his two sons or just chilling and grilling in his backyard in Crown Heights.
