Harrison Real Estate

Picture of Harrison

Located 22 miles from Manhattan near the Connecticut border, the village of Harrison, NY, is located within—and often referred to interchangeably with the town of Harrison. Harrison's neighbors to the west are White Plains and Scarsdale. The affluent village of Purchase is located in the town's northern section. The southern half of the town is simply referred to as Harrison or downtown and is divided into the four neighborhoods of Brentwood, Sunnyridge, Sterling Ridge/The Trails, and South Downtown. West Harrison is a somewhat isolated community, located between hills, cliffs, a lake and Interstate 287. West Harrison is bordered by Silver Lake Park and is home to another public park, a pool and a community center in addition to a small business district. The four areas of downtown are more residential enclaves than business districts.

Housing options in Harrison are as diverse as its geography, ranging from affordable homes in two of the downtown areas to multi-million dollar estates hidden behind high stone walls and gates in the village of Purchase and in the southern part of town near the Westchester Country Club, which hosted the Westchester Classic segment of the PGA Golf Tour for many years.

Families and businesses thrive amid Harrison's green rolling hills and lakes; there is a community cohesiveness that transcends the town's crazy-quilt of divisions and borders. In 2008, Fordham University opened its Westchester campus in West Harrison. The State University of New York at Purchase and Manhattanville College are located in Purchase, as are the corporate global headquarters of PepsiCo and MasterCard. The campus of the PepsiCo headquarters is home to the Donald M. Kendall Sculpture Gallery, one of the county's loveliest sculpture gardens, featuring works by important artists like Alexander Calder, Joan Miré, Alberto Giacometti, and Auguste Rodin placed on 168 acres of manicured lawns, shady groves and landscaped gardens with well-tended hedges and water-lily ponds. Also on the PepsiCo campus is the Neuberger Museum of Art, with its impressive collection of works from 20th century modern and contemporary artists like Jackson Pollock, Georgia O'Keeffe, Edward Hopper and many more.

With White Plains and Greenwich nearby, big-town shopping, dining and entertainment options are a short drive away. The Harrison Metro-North Railroad station serves Harrison via the New Haven Line. There are also Metro North stations nearby in White Plains (Harlem line) and Rye (New Haven line). The Westchester County Airport is also nearby at the border between Westchester and Connecticut.

With New York City and Long Island Sound to the south, Putnam County on the north and Connecticut to the east, Westchester County holds the distinction of being the world's first large-scale suburb. Major interstate highways constructed during the 1950s and 1960s and the construction of the Tappan Zee Bridge encouraged major corporations to build their headquarters here. A sweet spot for commuters traveling by car or by the Metro-North Commuter Railroad, today's Westchester is one of the nation's most affluent counties and the location of many of New York City's most desirable suburban communities.
