The town of Bedford, NY, is located 45 miles from NY City in northeastern Westchester County. It contains three distinct hamlets of Bedford Village, Bedford Hills and Katonah. The original 1680 Bedford settlement was in historic Bedford Village with the Village Green and buildings dating to the 18th and early 19th Centuries. This charming hamlet is listed on both the New York State and the National Register of Historic Places.
The hamlets of Bedford contain both lush acreage and over 100 linear miles of trails in the Bedford and Pound Ridge areas. With a population of approximately 16,000 in a 39 square mile area, Bedford offers a quiet, scenic quality of life; and yet, it is within an hour's commute of the sophistication of NYC.
The town has three town parks with swimming and tennis, the Bedford Free Library, the Bedford Playhouse, an ample collection of popular restaurants plus a variety of home sites with distinctive architectural integrity.
With New York City and Long Island Sound to the south, Putnam County on the north and Connecticut to the east, Westchester County holds the distinction of being the world's first large-scale suburb. Major interstate highways constructed during the 1950s and '60s and the construction of the Tappan Zee Bridge encouraged major corporations to build their headquarters here. A sweet spot for commuters traveling by car or by the Metro-North Commuter Railroad, today's Westchester is one of the nation's most affluent counties and the location of many of New York City's most desirable suburban communities.
