Widely considered one of Houston's first planned neighborhoods, the Heights was first built back in the 1890s. Today this area certainly preserves some of its historic charm and beauty with its Queen Anne and Craftsman-style homes. Pedestrians enjoy strolling along the sidewalks of 19th Street, which border shops, boutiques, and restaurants. One popular destination is Fat Cat Creamery, on North Shepherd Drive, with its tasty array of ice cream and other treats (many of the fresh ingredients are sourced from local vendors and farmers). Music lovers can take in a live performance at the historic Heights Theater or the nearby White Oak Music Hall.
