About Me

For Erika Sackin, real estate is more of an endurance race than sprint. It requires patience, an eye for the details, ongoing communication, and the ability to solve problems as they arise.

Fortunately, she embodies all of these qualities - and more. Her calm, professional approach to the business masks her obsession over the minutiae and a tireless drive to find solutions. All her clients see is steady progress, answers to their questions, and great results. Which is probably why so many of them end up as repeat customers, referring her new business, and even life-long friends.

A New Jersey native, Erika graduated from Emerson College with a degree in film production and began working as a set dresser. She eventually returned to New York where she studied fashion at FIT and worked as a retail buyer in housewares. Like real estate, it is an intense business involving constant pitching, selling, and negotiations with buyers, sellers, and agents in the fashion industry. But she learned many of the skills that would ensure her success as a real estate salesperson: communication, negotiation, problem-solving, and attention to detail.

In 2006, Erika moved to Ditmas Park, buying a home from Jan Rosenberg, the founder of Brooklyn Hearth Realty Ltd. The two quickly became friends. And when Erika left her job to explore starting her own fashion line, Jan tapped her expertise to help the Brooklyn Hearth agents stage homes and apartments for sale.

With her set dressing and housewares background, Erika was a natural. And it gave her a chance to learn more about the real estate business. Within a year, she had earned her real estate license and began working fulltime as a sales person at Brooklyn Hearth Realty.

Erika modeled much of her approach on Jan's, from the patience and empathy she has for her clients to the hands-on, client-first service she provides. And having lived in the neighborhood for more than a decade, Erika was able to serve as a resource for clients well beyond the traditional realm of real estate. As she learned from Jan, she's not only selling the property, but she's also selling the neighborhood as well. And making connections - from attorneys to tailors - is part of the full-service approach she offers.

Erika finds the real estate business to be very rewarding. She enjoys helping people, especially first-time home buyers. She likens it to therapy, in that she employs a lot of hand-holding, guidance, and support to help buyers navigate the process with as little trouble and discomfort as possible.

In early 2017, Erika followed Jan and the rest of her Brooklyn Hearth colleagues to Douglas Elliman, joining the largest brokerage in the New York Metropolitan area and the fourth largest residential real estate company nationwide. And though she's never worked for such a big organization, she's very excited about the move and the changes it will bring.

Erika loves technology, so she's excited for all the new tools and resources along with the streamlined processes and tech support that will help her better serve her clients. She also loves learning and is looking forward to soaking up Douglas Elliman's wealth of collective knowledge and intelligence along with all the continuing education and hands-on skills development the company offers. And she is also eager to leverage all these resources in order to expand her reach beyond Ditmas Park, Kensington, Midwood, and Flatbush to serve all of Brooklyn.
