Coney Island

Neighborhood Guide

Most New Yorkers think of Coney Island as a place where you go have fun in summer—it was called “the People’s Playground.” But the neighborhood is evolving, led by the opening of the Brooklyn Cyclones minor-league stadium, the amusement park’s renovation and an increasing number of local businesses staying open year-round. While there is room to grow for shopping and dining opportunities, commercial and residential developments are coming to Surf Ave. and Sheepshead Bay Ave. The city has also made efforts to upgrade local infrastructure in the last decade and plans to expand ferries to Coney Island by 2021.
