Roslyn Real Estate

The neighborhood formerly known as Hempstead Harbor changed its name to Roslyn in 1844 due to the postal service's confusion with the other Hempstead villages on Long Island. First settled in 1643 by settlers from Connecticut across the Long Island Sound, Roslyn historians have carefully preserved many historic buildings from its nearly 400 years as a community. The estates of William Bryant and Childs Frick are within the Roslyn area, and two neighborhoods are registered historic districts boasting architecture from the early 19th and 20th centuries. At the corner of Main and Old Northern, Roslyn's clock tower is a prominent and well-known local landmark.

Roslyn sits at the southernmost tip of Hempstead harbor's bay, at the center of no less than six golf courses -- including the historic Old Westbury course to the east. Local recreation centers around Roslyn Pond and Roslyn Pond Town Park, which form a picturesque village green. Shore Road and Bryant Avenue lead north along either shore of the bay. Cultural offerings include the Nassau County Museum of Art and Sid Jacobson Jewish Community Center. New York City is less than 25 miles away down the Long Island Expressway.

An incorporated village within the Town of North Hempstead, Roslyn is home to just under 5,000 people -- mostly professionals and executives. The neighborhood is luxurious and attractive, and has drawn notables including writer Michael Crichton, Animal Housewriter Chris Miller and Fred Wilpon, owner of the New York Mets.
