Oyster Bay Cove Real Estate

Spanning the area from the cove off Oyster Bay Harbor south to Syosset, the village of Oyster Bay Cove is located within the town of Oyster Bay, Long Island. Neighbors also include the hamlet of Oyster Bay and East Norwich to the west and Cold Spring Harbor to the east.

Communities in this part of the island's North Shore including Oyster Bay Cove, Mill Neck, Cove Neck, Upper Brookville, Locust Valley and neighboring Matinecock make up its legendary Gold Coast. These established waterfront communities are affluent even by Long Island standards. Oyster Bay Cove and its neighbors have long been home to New York's wealthiest families, Roosevelts, Rockefellers and Vanderbilts among them.

Both scenic and secluded, Oyster Bay Cove is an ideal choice if you're looking for undisturbed woodland surroundings with beaches nearby and Manhattan only 30 miles away. This small residential community offers a variety of homes from historic colonials and Greek Revivals to modern mansions on heavily-wooded lots of no less than two acres (as dictated by zoning laws).

The rural landscape in parts of the town of Oyster Bay hosts a number of wildlife sanctuaries like the 3,200 acre National Wildlife Refuge, home to New York State's only remaining commercial oyster farm, which produces 90% of the state's oyster harvest. The 12-acre Theodore Roosevelt Sanctuary and Audubon Center was established here nearly a century ago. Residents can enjoy unspoiled natural woodlands at the John P. Humes Japanese Stroll Garden and the 60-acre Shu Swamp Nature Preserve. The area offers several private country clubs, and the Oyster Bay Marine Center and Sagamore Yacht Club are convenient for boaters.

In the nearby hamlet of Oyster Bay, the downtown shopping district draws residents from surrounding villages for its cafes, restaurants, bookstores and other shops. Beekman Beach offers a 97-slip marina open only to town residents. Also nearby is the 400-acre Planting Fields Arboretum state park. To honor the area's waterfront legacy, an annual oyster festival is held in Theodore Roosevelt Memorial Park in Oyster Bay. A short drive away, the more commercial village of Huntington offers even more options.

The nearest Long Island Railroad stations are at Oyster Bay and Syosset. The Syosset station offers more frequent trains and express trains for a shorter commute (less than 50 minutes) to New York City. Driving to Manhattan takes about 40 minutes.
