Maison des Jardins Maison des Jardins is a newly constructed estate, designed in the style of 17th century French Classicism. The project represents an owner’s lifelong dream, brought to fruition by a team of architects, contractors and craftsman. Always awed by the grandeur, elegance, and prominence of the Château de Versailles and the Château de Vaux le Vicomte; for the owner, there was no question as to what style this estate would be. Designed and constructed in the spirit of the Gilded Age of Long Island’s Gold Coast, every facet of the château incorporates traditional building materials and methods. Massive twenty-two foot high iron gates flanked by limestone piers open to an allée of flowering pear trees, through which the driveway leads. The approach offers a glimpse here and there of the chimneys and cupola of the château. As anticipation builds and the pear allée fades, the eight acre property opens up to reveal a cobble lined forecourt. Set atop limestone plinths, the château’s height commands attention, while a soft limestone façade and intricate ironwork welcomes all. Oriented in an east-west direction, the one hundred sixty foot long château basks in southern exposure. Its ridges reach a height of fifty feet, with chimneys stretching to sixty feet. The main body of the château consists of a central curved roof with pediment, two bay wide wings then connect to two outer mansard roofed towers. The graduated courses of Vermont slate create a roofscape upon which over forty dormers are placed. Location information For over a century, Long Island's Gold Coast has been a favorite destination for Manhattan’s captains of industry and finance to make their home. Its gently rolling verdant hillsides are dotted with magnificent estates that testify to the beauty of the area. Located in the heart of the Gold Coast’s equestrian country, this property is convenient to major highways and railway, offering a quick commute to Manhattan. Nearby are golf clubs, a polo club, three major universities and just a short drive from boating, museums, premiere shopping and top restaurants. The village is as appealing today as ever.
