Mt. Sinai Real Estate

Mount Sinai, NY is a hamlet in the Suffolk County town of Brookhaven on Long Island's North Shore. Neighbors include Port Jefferson, Port Jefferson Station, Miller Place, and Coram; Mount Sinai Harbor and the Long Island Sound form its northern boundary.

Mount Sinai has been peaceful, quiet and rural since its earliest days as a sleepy harbor village. The hamlet grew exponentially as a residential community in the 1960s when housing developments began to sprout on land previously used for farming. New residents were attracted by the same things that had pleased the original Native American inhabitants: The harbor and the Sound provided natural beauty and a place to enjoy many forms of recreation.

Residents of Mount Sinai's oldest private community, Crystal Brook Park, have preserved the look and feel of their unique century-old community. Much newer residential developments include Pulte Villages, Island Estates, The Hamlet at Willow Creek, and The Ranches at Mount Sinai. Like many suburban Long Island towns, there is no main town center here, but there are plenty of amenities like shops, restaurants and cafes in the hamlet and in neighboring villages. Residents of Mount Sinai are community-minded and active in civic and social groups associated with the fire department, local sports organizations, schools, churches, and many more. The hamlet's schools are highly-regarded, friendly and inclusive in terms of sports and activities.

As early as the 19th century people from New York City and Connecticut came to Mount Sinai to escape the congestion of city neighborhoods. The northern part of Mount Sinai Harbor and Cedar Beach is an active recreation area, owned and managed by the town of Brookhaven. Municipal and private enterprises also provide space and services for boating and fishing. Cedar Beach offers facilities for swimming, teen summer recreation programs, and a nature study center. The harbor's southern side is more of a quiet, reflective place with many characteristics reminiscent of earlier times. Low tides bring clammers; high tides attract a few leisurely fishermen and boaters.

New York City is about an hour and 15 minute drive from Mount Sinai. The nearest Long Island Rail Road stop is in neighboring Port Jefferson. A ferry travels across Long Island Sound from Port Jefferson to Bridgeport, CT. The closest airports are Long Island MacArthur Airport in Islip and Tweed New Haven Regional Airport in New Haven, CT.
