Long Beach Real Estate

Dubbed "The City By The Sea," Long Beach, New York is the perfect combination of city and beach life. Year round, this Nassau County town is lively and thriving, and even more exciting during the spring and summer seasons.

Founded in the late 19th century, Long Beach is easily accessible from New York City, which is only an hour away via the Long Island Rail Road. The culture and stimulation of the city is apparent in this beach town, with its multitude of nightlife from clubs, to bars, and fine dining restaurants. Residents are surrounded by water, with the bay on one side and the ocean on the other. Every morning, the neighborhoods wake up to the smell of the salty water permeating through the refreshing air.

35,000 people populate the five square miles of Long Beach, and the city is made up of 15,000 households. The city is diverse and contains over two-dozen synagogues and churches.

The boardwalk is just over two miles long, and bikers, as well as people just taking a run or stroll, are seen frequenting it no matter what the weather. Just because it's not 80 degrees and sunny outside, that doesn't stop the energetic people of Long Beach from leaving the house to enjoy the scenery. During the summer, surfing is a popular activity, and in 2011, Quicksilver Pro even chose this city as the location for their international surfing contest.

When it's not the summertime, residents find ways to keep busy and have fun. In the winter, thousands of people gather for the annual Polar Bear Plunge fundraiser, and they are the world recorder holder for number of participants. Even though the water is frigid, Long Beach citizens still want to go for a swim, especially for a good cause. Irish Day occurs in the fall, where residents come out to celebrate the Irish culture and history with a festival and parade. There are also frequent farmer's markets and arts and crafts show that take place during ever season. Shopping districts include corporate chains as well as a number of local, independently owned boutiques.

For people looking to live in a beach town that has more than just sand and water, Long Beach is the ideal place. Its 365 day a year entertainment and activities keep the town alive, long after the temperatures drop.
