Inwood Real Estate

The hamlet of Inwood is one of Nassau County's Five Towns near the border of Queens County. While not actually towns, the Five Towns which also include Woodmere, Lawrence, Cedarhurst and The Hewletts (Hewlett Bay Park, Hewlett Harbor and Hewlett Neck and the hamlet of Hewlett have a distinctive reputation. Though the North Shore is often referred to as Long Island's Gold Coast, this area of the South Shore has been known to rival its concentration of affluence.

Neighbors include Far Rockaway to the southwest, other portions of Queens to the northwest and Lawrence and Cedarhurst to the east. Geographically, Inwood is the first of the Five Towns after Far Rockaway. Like the other towns, Inwood is less than 45 minutes to New York City via the Long Island Railroad, minutes from the ocean beaches of Atlantic Beach and the Rockaways, a short trip to skiing in the Catskill Mountains, and offers a fine collection of retail establishments, restaurants, parks, pools and golf courses.

Despite the area's affluent reputation, a wide range of houses can be found here. On some streets homes on small lots are interspersed with industrial and commercial buildings while others offer the multi-storied manors with sweeping driveways often found in the Five Towns.

Though still peaceful and suburban, Inwood is more culturally diverse than its neighbors. You'll hear several languages spoken here from English and Hebrew to Spanish and Italian the last is common among some of the hamlet's oldest residents. This small, tightly-knit community has continued to adapt to change; residents are spirited, hard-working and friendly.

Doughty Boulevard is the community's main drag, similar to Cedarhurst's Central Avenue, though on a smaller scale; on a sunny day you'll see people strolling the sidewalks and ducking into favorite lunch spots. Inwood is home to the famous Inwood Country Club, the site of the 1921 PGA Championship as well as the 1923 U.S. Open.

By car, Inwood is about 40 to 45 minutes from Manhattan with light traffic. The Inwood station offers Long Island Rail Road service to Pennsylvania Station in Midtown it's about a 45-minute commute from New York City by rail. John F. Kennedy International Airport is less than five miles away.
