Hampton Bays Real Estate

The hamlet of Hampton Bays forms the easternmost point of the main body of Long Island, with Shinnecock Hills to the east forming the west end of the island's South Fork.

Prior to 1922, the community consisted of 11 independent hamlets known collectively as "Good Ground," each consisting of just one or two families. They consolidated into Hampton Bays to take advantage of the growing tourist trade, which remains a vital part of the community's economy. Summer popularity for the neighborhood is unsurprising, given its location with Shinnecock Bay and Tiana Bays to the south, Great Peconic Bay to the north, and navigable connection between the two via the Shinnecock Canal. Local waterfronts feature public beaches, restaurants, shopping and entertainment.

To the west, Hubbard and Sears Bellows County Parks offer swimming and sporting facilities, more beaches and miles of trails for hiking, biking and horseback riding. Nearby to the west, Riverhead offers museums, golf and connection to New York City via the Long Island Expressway and Long Island Railroad.
Hampton Bays' year-round population numbers just under 15,000. Residents tend to be working families and retirees. Many of the permanent residents work as, or serve, commercial fishermen working out of the Sinnecock Inlet.
