Floral Park Real Estate

Located 17 miles from Manhattan in western Nassau County, the village of Floral Park, NY, lies within the towns of Hempstead and North Hempstead. A neighborhood by the same name lies just over the New York City border in Queens. Neighboring towns include Franklin Square and Elmont to the south and New Hyde Park to the northeast.

The initial growth and the name of Floral Park can be attributed to John Lewis Childs and his wildly successful flower, seed and bulb business in the late 1800s. Childs named the streets after local blooms when his mail-order empire including more than 200 acres of flower beds put the sleepy Long Island village on the map.

Floral Park is a quiet village of beautiful colonial, Tudor and Cape Cod homes along tree-lined flower streets. Homes here can get quite expensive at the high end, though more affordable homes can be found. Tulip Avenue, with its classic architecture, quaint local storefronts and dining establishments, runs through the heart of the village, giving the quiet suburban neighborhood small town appeal. Though many of the town's families have lived here for generations, newcomers of all ages become neighbors quickly. An annual highlight is the Floral Park Belmont Stakes Festival in celebration of the final leg of the Triple Crown horse race which happens each year at Belmont Park in nearby Elmont.

With a Long Island Railroad (both the Hempstead and Port Jefferson branches) station overlooking Tulip Avenue, Floral Park is about 30 minutes from Midtown Manhattan and runs 13 trains to Penn Station during AM rush hours. By car, the Cross Island Parkway provides connections to the Belt Parkway to the south and the Throgs Neck Bridge to the North.
