Farmingdale Real Estate

Farmingdale is a small, incorporated village within the city limits of Oyster Bay. It has a rich history, and has much to offer its 8,399 residents.

The first settler, Thomas Powell, arrived in this area in 1687, and conducted a purchase from the indigenous Native Americans for a 15 acre square parcel of land that was known as the Bethpage Purchase. In fact, one of the houses that Powell built in 1700 still stands today in Farmingdale.

The village was named by Ambrose George, who built the first general store there in anticipation of the Long Island Railroad building a station there. George's investment paid off when the railroad came through in 1841.

The Farmingdale community includes both South and East Farmingdale. The village is home to Farmingdale State College as well as the Republic Airport. The village has its own water district and fire department.

Located close by is Bethpage State Park, right outside the city limits. This area used to be the Lenox Hills Country Club, a private golf course, before the State of New York purchased it and created a state park. Residents also enjoy the nearby Bethpage Golf Course as well as numerous other local attractions.
