East Rockaway Real Estate

The deep, navigable channels of Hewlett Bay made this area a shipping and trading center in the 17th century. Over the centuries, East Rockaway has become more of a residential community than a trade powerhouse, but its historic buildings and long waterfront stretches remain.

The Haviland-Davison Grist Mill still stands in the village's Memorial Park, and is listed on the National Register of Historic Places.

A long history of people living here means the mill isn't the only historic building to be found. Examples of Colonial, Dutch Revival and Victorian homes sit among grand old churches and public halls.

With a population of just over 11,000, East Rockaway is an incorporated village. It has its own public schools, though East Rockaway High partners with neighboring Malverne to field full teams for some sports. East Rockaway's volunteer fire department and Nassau County Police provide public safety services.

The waterfront bay is now home to private yachts and pleasure boaters, served by the Seawane Country Club. East Rockaway's John Street Recreational Complex offers facilities for football, baseball and basketball. Additional parks, beaches and golf courses are within a 10-minute drive, and New York City is a convenient train ride or drive to the East.
