Bridgehampton Real Estate

For 40 years in the second half of the 20th century, Bridgehampton housed one of the pinnacles of American car racing. The internationally famous, 13-turn, race track known as "The Bridge" was simultaneously loved and feared by racers and fans alike. Although the track ran its last race in 1997, the culture of car racing still pervades this hamlet on Long Island's South Fork.
Despite several grass-roots attempts to restore the track, it has since been converted into a golf course and several tracts of homes. These new homes give people moving to Bridgehampton a choice between modern construction and period houses from the area's long history. Several shops and restaurants can be found at the Bridgehampton Commons shopping center. Opportunities for recreation are close to hand on the south coast of Long Island and surrounding the nearby Mecox Bay. Museums, galleries and luxury shopping is less than an hour to the west in Riverhead -- and New York City's unparalleled cultural opportunities are only a day trip away.
Bridgehampton offers the advantages of a small town -- its 2010 population was less than 2,000 -- with the opportunities of several nearby cities. With a median income of just under $60,000, homes here are affordable for working families. Bridgehampton has its own school district, and relies on Suffolk County for law enforcement services.
