Jupiter Real Estate

The town of Jupiter, Florida covers about 21 square miles of Palm Beach County along Jupiter Inlet, a narrow waterway off the Atlantic Ocean. The earliest known records of settlement in the area date back to 1565, when the Spaniards arrived there. The town's name comes from an early Spanish spelling of the native Hobe tribe as Jobe, which was recorded as Jove and later misunderstood to be a Latin translation of the Roman god Jupiter. Nearby are the exclusive enclaves of Jupiter Island and Hobe Sound.

The ideal home for anyone who loves living near water, this laid-back beachfront town offers a number of popular restaurants, arts centers and shops. Warm and sunny year-round, Jupiter is known for its beautiful beaches and the Loxahatchee River. It's also popular with surfers because Palm Beach County is the easternmost part of Florida, it is well-situated to receive big waves from the north. In addition to several parks, the Busch Wildlife Sanctuary, a non-profit care facility for wild animals, is located here. Blowing Rocks Beach on nearby Jupiter Island and John Dickinson State Park on Hobe Sound are some of the area's most unique beaches, sheltering natural rock formations and rare wildlife. The community also makes use of an aquatic center with access ramps into the Intracoastal Waterway. The spring training facilities for the Miami Marlins and the St. Louis Cardinals are in Jupiter at the Roger Dean Stadium complex. The town's main shopping area can be found along Donald Ross and Indiantown Roads. A local landmark is the iconic Jupiter Inlet Lighthouse, built in 1860.

Within the town's borders, the planned community of Abacoa has received national recognition as an example of compact community design and open space restoration existing in harmony with the area's natural resources. The 2,055-acre mixed-use community contains 393 acres of land as open space, including a 260-acre greenway that protects the natural wetlands and woods environment and its diversity of wildlife. Some of this open space is used for the neighborhood's many parks and community gathering spots. Abacoa contains a variety of housing types including large and small single-family homes, condominiums and apartments. Trails connect neighborhoods with pedestrian paths, and a free weekend trolley bus brings residents to and from the town center.
