A small and gorgeous beach city in Monterey County, Carmel is a place for artists and animal lovers. Dogs are allowed to run leash-free on Carmel Beach, and the charms of this community also include the galleries and boutique shops of the picturesque and cottage-laden Carmel Village. Life can be quiet here, and that’s what many residents prefer. The larger city of Monterey borders Carmel, and Pebble Beach and all its golfing amenities are less than 10 minutes away by car. It’s also possible to spend a few relaxing hours hiking from Carmel to Pebble Beach.
