Picture of Pound Ridge

With New York City and Long Island Sound to the south, Putnam County on the north and Connecticut to the east, Westchester County holds the distinction of being the world’s first large-scale suburb. Major interstate highways constructed during the 1950s and ‘60s and the construction of the Tappan Zee Bridge encouraged major corporations to build their headquarters here. A sweet spot for commuters traveling by car or by the Metro-North Commuter Railroad, today’s Westchester is one of the nation’s most affluent counties and the location of many of New York City's most desirable suburban communities.

The rustic, tranquil town of Pound Ridge, NY is made up of three hamlets: Pound Ridge, Sarles Corners and the business district of Scott’s Corners in the eastern area of Westchester County. New Canaan and Stamford, CT and Lewisboro and Bedford, NY are neighbors. Originally home to the Siwanoy and Kitchawong Mohican tribes and settled in the 1640s, much of the town was destroyed in the Revolution in 1779. It was sparsely populated until becoming a haven for better-known actors, artists and musicians in the 1930s. That tradition continues today–actor Richard Gere lives here, for example, and operates his Bedford Post Inn and Restaurant in nearby Bedford. More “horse country” than suburbs, Pound Ridge is sophisticated and well-maintained, offering excellent schools and the county’s largest park, the 4,700-acre Ward Pound Ridge Reserve, in addition to the quaint antiques shops and popular restaurants along the streets of Scott’s Corners. Express trains to New York City average a commute time of 55 minutes.
