Large enough to offer important services to its residents, and just small enough to be quaint and neighborly, Pleasantville also prides itself on its reputation as a cultural and artistic center. This reputation got a boost in 2001 with the opening of the nonprofit Jacob Burns Film Center in the landmark Rome Theater. Another addition to the cultural scene is the Pleasantville Music Festival, held in July. The Frank Lloyd Wright-designed residential enclave Usonia Homes sits on 100 acres of wooded hillside and includes two houses designed by Wright himself. Architecture students and fans of Wright’s designs consider the development an important collection of some of the 20th century’s finest modern architecture.

The Mount Pleasant Recreation and Parks Department oversees a wide variety of recreation programs and facilities for the arts, sports, aquatics, special events and social activities. A focal point for activities is the Mount Pleasant Community Center and Town Pool Complex. The department is also responsible for the maintenance of 14 town parks.
