With New York City and Long Island Sound to the south, Putnam County on the north and Connecticut to the east, Westchester County holds the distinction of being the world's first large-scale suburb. Mount Kisco, NY, (often spelled Mt. Kisco) is a both a village and a town in Westchester County–the village chose to become a town in its own right in 1978. A busy town center amid rolling hills and countryside, Mount Kisco is a shopping and dining magnet for all of northern Westchester. Familiar retail stores co-exist with unique local specialty shops, and dining options are many, including Indian, Mexican, Spanish, Italian, Greek, Chinese and new American at more than 40 local restaurants, cafes and gourmet markets. Homes here vary as well, from condominiums and single-family homes to sprawling mansions in the wooded hills above town. In April 2007, Mount Kisco was named the best family town in Westchester by InTown magazine, which remarked that, "...while the town earns points for making the glamorous life so convenient, it's the down-to-earth vibe that launched this woodsy hamlet to the top."
