Picture of Hawthorne

With New York City and Long Island Sound to the south, Putnam County on the north and Connecticut to the east, Westchester County holds the distinction of being the world’s first large-scale suburb. Major interstate highways constructed during the 1950s and ‘60s and the construction of the Tappan Zee Bridge encouraged major corporations to build their headquarters here. A sweet spot for commuters traveling by car or by the Metro-North Commuter Railroad, today’s Westchester is one of the nation’s most affluent counties and the location of many of New York City's most desirable suburban communities.

The unincorporated hamlet of Hawthorne, NY, in the town of Mount Pleasant, is well-situated in the center of Westchester County. This ideal location affords residents convenient access to the county’s bounty of parks, lakes, wildlife sanctuaries and the Hudson River as well as restaurants, cultural destinations and shopping. It’s a commuter’s dream, easily accessible to both Northern and Southern Westchester via a number of highways and main roads and just 30 miles from the heart of Manhattan—an easy trip for those who work in the city or just love to visit. As with most of Westchester County, you'll find some of the best schools in the nation here. Mount Pleasant is also home to a campus of Pace University. There are two major medical facilities in Mount Pleasant, the Westchester Medical Center in Valhalla and Phelps Hospital in Sleepy Hollow. The New York Medical College is located at the Westchester Medical Center.

The Mount Pleasant Recreation and Parks Department oversees a wide variety of top quality recreation programs and facilities. Programs are offered for residents of all ages including opportunities in the arts, sports, aquatics, special events and various social activities. The focal point of activities is the Mount Pleasant Community Center and Town Pool Complex. The department is also responsible for the maintenance of 14 Town parks and many landscaped areas throughout the town.
