In November 2009, in a declining market on the heels of national recession, classical guitarist and composer Michael Graves burst onto the residential real estate scene shattering price per-square-foot records in luxury buildings citywide from Tribeca to the Upper West Side. By 2012, he'd recorded over $100 million in single-unit resale transactions, and climbed the ranks to become top-producing broker at a #1 ranked boutique NYC firm.
Michael continues to increase his pace with over $95 million in contract and closed year to date. He has been recognized for his extraordinary success in a starring role on HGTV’s reality TV series, "Selling New York," where over four episodes, he closed five deals, breaking four records and totaling more than $20 million in sales. This perfect performance on the program remains unmatched, and is chronicled in public City records.
While marketing properties, Michael has achieved top price per square foot on more than 80% of his transactions. His clients readily acknowledge his success, citing multiple deals where his final result equaled millions more than his competing broker’s best projection – projections often made by highly-regarded real estate professionals. Media like The New York Times, Wall Street Journal and Real Deal also seek out and feature Michael for his extensive market knowledge and record-breaking deals. Investors, developers and homeowners alike appreciate his engaging personality, and his expertise in selling unique high-end properties intelligently and creatively.
Michael credits his razor-sharp marketing and negotiating skills to a lifetime of experience in business, academia, hospitality and the fine arts. Prior to residential real estate, he was Sales and Marketing Director for his family’s luxury hotel development company, Graves Hospitality, where he formed strong relationships with valued corporate clients in the Midwest and on the East Coast. His work led the company to receive top accolades such as Travel + Leisure’s “World’s Best Hotels”, ESNY Lumen Award, “Gold Reserve of Top Hotels” by Conde Nast Traveler, three Gold Key awards from Interior Design and Hospitality Design, PlatinumStatus with Marriott Hotels, President’s Circle with Carlson Hospitality and others.
A proud husband and father of twins, Michael enjoys spending his free time at home or traveling with family. He is also an accomplished classical guitarist and composer of film and concert music. His music has received rave reviews and been heard around the world, with world premiere performances at Carnegie Hall. Michael graduated with the highest honors from New York University where he received Masters degrees in Composition & Theory and Scoring for Film & Multimedia. He is the recipient of several awards including the American Music Center’s CAP Award, NYU's Honor Scholar Award and The Founder’s Day Award.
