The Riverdale section of the Bronx is bordered on the north by the city of Yonkers (Westchester County), Van Cortlandt Park, Kingsbridge (Bronx) and Marble Hill (Manhattan) to the east, and to the west by the Hudson River.

Johnson Avenue is the main street of Downtown (Central) Riverdale, where, packed into a two-block area, you’ll find a bustling neighborhood center with restaurants, shops, cafes and pubs. Other sections include Spuyten Duyvil/South Riverdale, North Riverdale and leafy, historic Fieldston.

Riverdale is a popular choice for families and young professionals who feel priced out of Manhattan’s Upper West Side and who don’t need endless nightlife options. You won’t find tourists clogging the streets—though you may find nature and history buffs seeking the verdant serenity of Wave Hill.

Low crime, a wide range of housing options—from grand mansions and spacious single family homes with gorgeous river views to downtown studios and everything in between—and proximity to Manhattan are all pluses for this old-fashioned New York City neighborhood; it also offers a suburban lifestyle similar to Westchester county to the north—without the premium home prices.

Riverdale is home to three well-respected private schools: Horace Mann, Fieldston and Riverdale Country Day (John F. Kennedy’s 4th to 6th grade Alma Mater). There are also three colleges: Mount Saint Vincent, Manhattan College and the Academy of Jewish Religion.

Wave Hill Public Garden and Cultural Center with its spectacular gardens, grounds, views and educational programs attracts visitors from all five boroughs and beyond. Riverdale is served by the IRT 7th Avenue Subway (242nd Street/Broadway, Van Cortlandt Park), Metro North Railroad (Riverdale) and New York City MTA Buses.
